Damaged…From the Inside Out reveals the humorous and unhappy moments of his life after experiencing a head injury. This autobiography shares to readers the true story of author Martin Robillard discussing his family, school, hospital, and friendship moments. His journey through the difficult moments of his life is one that he will always remember. He suffered from short term memory loss, an equilibrium imbalance, depression, anxiety, loss of friendships, loss of inhibition, and more. Edema, also known as the swelling of the brain, is what happened to Martin from his accident. Swelling of the brain becomes dangerous when the swelling causes a rise in intracranial pressure, which prevents blood from entering the skull to deliver nutrients and oxygen to the brain. Retrograde amnesia, forgetting events prior to the injury, and post traumatic amnesia, forgetting events after the brain insult, frequently occur after experiencing a head injury. This inspirational story serves to inspire readers to hold on to their hopes and dreams and never to give up despite the many trials that happens in life as it holds true to Martin Robillard’s story of hope and triumph from adversity.
